About

Girl Underground Music is an online platform driven around the goal to provide underground artists a platform, and viewers a place to discover new music. Primarily serving new and local artists in the long lost art of interviews and reviews, G.U.M. considers all genres and form of arts as submissions, and dives further to find the music stories that matter.

Authors

Janette Ayub

Janette is a former KSPC disc jockey that created Girl Underground in a panic during sound check when she didn’t have a name for her show and stumbled across a Girl in a Coma CD, while her lazy eye spotted the word “underground.” Some might also note she is a connoisseur of wings who collects cats in her spare time.

She is also a recovering carnivore.

 Rachel Schroeder

Rachel is a freelance boom operator and full-time music lover. When she’s not holding her arms above her head for hours, she’s digging around for new music and buying ALL the concert tickets.

Mariana Martinez

Mariana Martinez is a music enthusiast, writer, and dancer currently studying at Occidental College in Los Angeles, California. Mariana has channelled her love of music through writing musician interviews and hosting a weekly show with KOXY Radio. When she is not DJing as Funky Mar, you can find her front row at any show.

Aria Silva-Espinosa

Likes: Lecturing on social inequalities, cats, gay bars, grilled cheese, hokey crystal stores and binge watching Forensic Files. Dislikes: Racism, hot sauce that isn’t hot enough, parking tickets. Aria lives in Silver Lake, Los Angeles with her two cats and two roommates who actually own and care for the cats. She received her B.A. in Sociology from Southeastern Louisiana University and the degree itself now sits in the back of her closet gathering dust. She can usually be found haunting the Echoplex or Charles Bukowski’s old hangout, the Smog Cutter. She isn’t very friendly but would give you the shirt off her back if you asked, depending on which shirt it is.

Illsamar

Illsamar is a creative of the music realm who raps, assists in photography, and now lends her knowledge in the written form.

Toni Wisner

Toni Wisner is a manager at Smart Post Sound during the day and a Cupcake Goddess in between. 4. Seeing as you are from California, I have a question for you. Have you ever heard of the band Leopold and His Fiction? I believe they are currently based in San Francisco, or they at least tour a lot in California. They are one of my favorite bands right now, yet none of my friends who live out there have heard of them! I am curious if you have.

I hope to see them when I’m out there next as they never tour in my neck of the woods. Here is a link to my favorite song of theirs… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2V3vcVRSoE

Let me know what you think.

Lastly, one more question for the Cali girl… Have you ever heard of Kid Cadaver? Not sure if they are necessarily up your alley, but they are one of my favorite indie pop bands from California, but yet again, no one seems to know about them. Let me know! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOXkQi3ZGj4

      • It is amazing!
Thank you for taking the time to actually browse through it and reading them, it means a lot to have feedback. I appreciate the kind words, just trying to share the music the only way I know how: writing.
Of course this Cali girl knows Kid Cadaver, they are amazing. Weirdest thing I was just listening to them on Spotify because I forgot how good they are…is “Let your youth show,” one of your favorites?
