Emerging Trio Lucky Idiot Make Raw and Refined Debut with ‘Mud’
Lucky Idiot's debut sees Maxwell Byrne (Golden Vessel) team up with Kalem Woo of Rei So La, and Rei Sakakibara of Sweater Curse for a lo-fi, indie dream.
It seems the indie gods have descended upon us with an exceptional trio of musicians that we never knew we needed. In comes Lucky Idiot, the latest collaborative effort of Maxwell Byrne (multifaceted Aussie producer Golden Vessel), Kalem Woo (dreamy pop crooner Rei So La), and Rei Sakakibara (of Sweater Curse).
A combination of textures and grooves, their debut single “Mud” is as easygoing and relaxed as the rhythms that lead it. Guitars lazily dwindle among the variety of acoustics as the artists take turns in leading vocals. Taking subtle moments for interpretation the drums and strings often play off each other as quintessential line “I feel like the king of the hill,” echoes across the record. It’s clear that the project is fueled by DIY approaches and a fun synergetic exercise from the artists. The pleasant cut comes off of their debut EP with an upcoming release under sumoclic, a record label launched earlier this year by Golden Vessel and Akurei.
