¡El Grito! Virtual Telethon to Raise Funds For Angelenos Impacted by COVID-19.

The City of Los Angeles and Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez present ¡El Grito!, a virtual telethon that will be held tonight, September 15, 2020 at 7:00 pm to raise funds for the Latino community in Los Angeles who have been hit the hardest by COVID-19.

The event is in partnership with Comunidades Indígenas en Liderazgo (CIELO) — an indigenous women-lead organization which serves as a link, a resource, and liaison for migrant indigenous Angelenos — and will raise funds to support CIELO’s Undocu-Indigenous Fund.

The pandemic have hit Latinos disproportionately, many who are on the frontline, with Los Angeles’ essential workers in the service, food, and agricultural industry; “serving and picking our foods, keeping our homes clean, making our masks, and keeping our city running.”

What marks the beginning for National Hispanic and Latino/Latinx Heritage Month, running from today, September 15 – October 15, this year’s event will feature virtual musical performances, celebration of the Latinx community in Los Angeles, as well as share the contributions the community have made throughout history; culturally and economically.

The pre-show begins at 6:30 pm with DJ Angie Vee and will be co-hosted by Elva Saray, Host of Acceso Total, Telemundo 52’s weekday lifestyle and entertainment show, and Belen de Leon, meteorologist of NBC4 weekday morning newscast, Today in LA. Telemundo 52 Los Angeles and NBC4 are El Grito 2020’s media partners.

While the main show will run from 7 – 9 pm and feature performances and appearances by Los Tucanes de Tijuana, La Santa Cecilia, Ozomatli, El Conjunto Nueva Ola (ECNO), La Victoria, Weapons of Mass Creation, San Cha, DJ Angie Vee, Las Joyas Divinas Del Valle, and Mariachi Lluvia Y Fuego.

During the program, the City of Los Angeles will join the Consul General of Mexico in re-enacting the historic Cry of Dolores and ringing of the bell, which commemorates the call to arms pronounced by Miguel Hidalgo in 1810 which launched the Mexican War for Independence.
