As the world bears the weight of quarantine, charming music will always lead us through this fog of uncertainty.
Jenny O.’s latest single, “I Don’t Want to Live Alone Anymore,” is a call for companionship as a once-comfortable solitude wears out its welcome. Though it was not intentional, let this be an ode to the times.
Written, produced and shot by Jenny O. herself, the video tours her home as she tinkers away in a familiar boredom, longing for a certain company. The plants need untangling, the books need organizing. It’s a familiar dance with a more familiar tune. Though she’s been content to hit repeat and soak in that tune’s warmth, what she wants is for someone to share a meal with, and maybe for that someone to finally hit Next on the stereo.
Isolation has its benefits, no doubt. It has a way of focusing the mind as the world around becomes quiet. But with that comes a loneliness relatable to anyone weathering these times alone. It’s nice to hear another voice, even in the background somewhere.
Her forthcoming album, New Truth, is out June 16th via Portland-based Mama Bird, with whom she recently signed. This marks a new chapter with an intent mirrored by both this track and the album itself. It’s time to adjust and to adapt.
