Canary Rapper Bejo Returns with Colorful Release ‘Frida Calo’

As the quarantine can prove limiting for some artists, Bejo takes "Frida Calo" as an opportunity to share his creative pursuits accompanying the track with his vivid illustrations.

Hailing from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary rapper Bejo has been writing peculiar rhymes as early as 2012, pertaining to rap groups like El Crema y Locoplaya. His unique style and aesthetic is informed by his surroundings; bountiful beaches and plenty of sunshine for a refreshing sound. Not one to take himself too seriously, Bejo translates the playful rhetoric of island life into a feel good flow.

As the quarantine can prove limiting for some artists, the lyricist takes “Frida Calo” as an opportunity to share his creative pursuits accompanying the track with his vivid illustrations. Sharing on his Instagram, “Hipi Hapa return pa amenizar la cuarentena,” the artist expresses “let’s soothe this quarantine.” Bejo brings listeners an instrumental heavy track produced by emerging urban producer Sandro Jeeawock. “Frida Calo” also recalls the distinct movement of rappers coming out of the Canaries. Informed by African and Latin rhythms paired with a generous dose of reggaeton, these young artists are putting Tenerife on the map.

Bejo had a show in Madrid slated for March 20th, but was unfortunately cancelled due to the pandemic. One to deliver striking energy, whether with fellow Locoplaya rappers or in his own headlining set, Bejo brings abundant personality to his performances. His other latest release with groundbreaking group La Sr. Tomosa “Que Venga,” demonstrates his ability to stand out in collaborations. With a humorous narrative and limitless creativity, Bejo’s artistry is just the explosion of color we need in these grim days.
