Aptly titled, Gifted Gab and Blimes return with their new single “Magic” via The Orchard, taken off their forthcoming debut album Talk About It, set for release April 3, 2020.
“Magic” confidently boasts of the duo’s success, not shying away from starting at the bottom and hustling harder, as the track basks in a hip-hop and electronic bed. Featuring the contemporary bars of Richmond’s Iamsu!, the track’s smooth core comes to fruition by each verse. And regardless of the “turn to gold” mentality that is evoked, it’s not done in arrogance, it’s done in respect to themselves.
“It’s definitely a feel good Bay Area bop for the folks that will never forget what they overcame to get where they are,” says the duo in a press release.
The flute-led production accent’s Blimes and Gab’s velvety tones for a rich nod at classic hip-hop. Each verse is executed with something that cannot be taught — fearlessness — for a laid-back banger. The duo’s playful yet honed imagery with words is always a favorite and there is much anticipation for what is to come next.
