Earlier in September, The Airborne Toxic Event announced the departure of Anna Bulbrook, which also acted as the first post from the band on the website in about three years. Bulbrook, who is the founder of Girlschool LA, “felt it was time for new experiences and that her heart was moving in a new direction,” according to the sentimental thanks penned by frontman Mikel Jollett.
Following-up days ago, the remainder of the band announced of their arrival, simply titled “The Beginning” and detailing two dates on each end of the coasts. “For four years now we’ve been telling you we’re coming back. This is where it begins. Late spring, 2020. Two shows. One in New York. One in LA. We’ll see you there.”
The band is slated to return April 4 at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles and April 10 at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City.
Since the band’s debut in 2006, the Los Angeles ensemble captured hearts with their classical and rock fusion, bombastic live versions, and the trailing remains of a failed relationship. Their debut EP peaked the charts in 2008, and in the U.S., “Sometime Around Midnight” reached #4 on the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart.
