Oh Sees ‘Captain Loosely’

Oh Sees dedicate new video "Captain Loosely" to victims of El Paso.

Closing with a simple title screen that reads “Dedicated to the Victims of the El Paso Massacre, August 3, 2019,” the latest single and video from Oh Sees is a pensive isolation of sounds. Acting as their fourth single from their upcoming double LP, Face Stabber, due 8/16 via Castle Face Records, the instrumental philosophy of “Captain Loosely” surpasses its 5-minute mark.

Matt Yoka’s direction took the video to El Paso at the borer of U.S. and Mexico where the location tells the story. Time lapse shots sneak onscreen in a fair manner, one that doesn’t discriminate which part of the fence a viewer may be on, similar to time. Beauty in flowers hold a high remark throughout, alluding to perspective, and the dwindling in something so natural as they become another stem on a grave in the ambient soundscape. Electronic buds hold the platform and skid from undecipherable waves to a loud, quiet.

Yoka also added, “This video is a space for reflection. How has this bad dream become our reality? Now, with news of the hateful massacre that occurred in El Paso… I fear we are slipping further into a nightmare. I pray that love and empathy will wake us up soon.”

Oh Sees also made a statement on the recent tragedy in El Paso, Tx:

“In reflection of the very recent murder of innocents in El Paso , we send our love to the victims and the victims families. We record in Tornillo TX (right near El Paso) and are very much in love with the people and families of these border cities. We paired up with Matt Yoka to make this minute dreamscape of life and commotion on the border in these often brutal times. People from anywhere on the planet have the right to ask for asylum in our country. This is one of the building blocks of our nation that we are failing to uphold. Hate and fear have been a cancer in the dark corners of our country through its history, violently making its way to the surface. We must resist and fight this evil at all costs.”

Oh Sees also announced new dates for their North American tour this fall, one being their show this Friday, August 9, in Pioneertown that will benefit the East L.A. Women’s Center.
