Eyesore & The Jinx ‘On an Island’

Liverpool trio, Eyesore & The Jinx, sharply cut through the political debris on their latest track and accompanying video “On an Island” via Eggy Records, with a charged wave of garage punk. Following-up with the same satirical commentary, heard on “Gated Community,” the new single is a blistering concoction of the current climate, it’s almost crude to take pleasure at our own expense, but we will do it anyways.

Led by bassist/vocalist Josh Miller, guitarist Liam Bates and drummer Eoghan Robinson, the ensemble’s slew of sounds is a needed punch of reality. Miller’s vocals tauntingly skid pass the minuscule lull before reaching the track’s climax, which then consumes the duration of the track. Robinson’s tactful balance of control while drumming is a deadly treat, alongside tight vocals and flourishing guitar chords.

The track’s visual companion mirrors each line belted by Miller for a raw and direct approach, animated by Mat Greaves. The imagery is self-explanatory and jabs at consumers’ “social media isolation,” resulting in a lack of empathy. Simplistically, this song is fuckin’ awesome. Everything else just sucks. Or in a more polished aspect, vocalist Josh Miller puts it: “’On an island‘ is a sweet and tender ballad dedicated to the cultural residue of post-Brexit Britain. Where endorsers of teeth whitener, protein shakes and 2 for 1 cocktails are as influential as the reptiles in Westminster.”
