Jenny Lewis Enchants on First Single ‘Red Bull & Hennessy’ Feat. Ringo Starr and Jim Keltner From Forthcoming Album

Jenny Lewis returns with a new single "Red Bull & Hennessy" and raises anticipation for fourth solo album, announcing track list and tour.

We’ve all been patiently waiting for Jenny Lewis to grace us once more after her remarkable 2014 album, The Voyager. Since then the former Rilo Kiley frontwoman has been part of the all-star rock trio Nice as Fuck and lent her vocals to various tracks, such as Phosphorescent’s “Sugaree.” Despite this, the five years have started to take a toll on fans, until late December the artist announced her fourth solo studio album On the Line will be unveiled March 22nd via Warner Bros. Records.

Today, the offering to appease our raised anticipation and gather a sense of direction on the new collection comes in a roaring swing of progressive and soft blues-rock. “Red Bull & Hennessy” alludes to the distance between two lovers and the self-diagnosed medicine that Lewis prescribes and hails. While the track has been traveling around during live performances, the final cultivation and studio take is a fuller composition that grows from Lewis’ sensual persuasion from line to line: “I’m about to be wicked / You got me lying on my back/ Hallelu / All will be forgiven, but why you gotta act like that, make me beg for you?”

Slight inspirational cues are hailed from the iconic gypsy, Stevie Nicks, throughout Lewis’ tantalizing vocal arrangement. Longer guitar solos come into play, alongside melodic and rich drumming, that marry the track’s enchanted piano keys — giving a sense of more resounding instrumentation on the new album. An abrupt ending adds to Lewis’ flavorful insight and assured arrival. The single’s artwork, and focal attention, mirrors The Voyager’s own artwork, and plays on familiarity and of a new era for Lewis.

While the album is set to feature Beck, Ryan Adams, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ Benmont Tench, and more to be announced, the single features Jim Keltner and Ringo Starr which was confirmed on Jenny Lewis’ Twitter account.
