Delicately arranged and led with a dramatic introduction, ONUR‘s latest track “I Don’t Know Why I Fall In Love” is a sensual scorn that seems to be the perfect haunting to leave behind as we make the last stretch of 2018. The 22-year old, London artist has a knack for crafting electro-soul slicks effortlessly, such as “Beamin'” and “Stunnah,” and exemplifies a similar principle on his latest track, only with a heavy Latin influence.
“The song started as this Latin style track, because I think that those Argentinian style strings you hear in tango and the likes always have this romance and passion behind it,” describes ONUR. As the track opens, you can almost feel the needle scratching against the vinyl that ONUR mimics his heavy mind to. Minimally arranged and guided with a classical guitar, the tenderness of the nylon strings paints ONUR in the light of longing an unrequited love which dances around his falsetto.
“Carrying on from the theme of my break-up and me not getting over it, ‘I Don’t Know Why I Fall In Love’ reflects on my thoughts of her a while after the relationship ended, and how I’m still stuck in heartbreak, yet don’t want to be, therefore blaming myself for being in love.”
ONUR layers eloquently with an orchestral pen until the final moments of the track. As an attempt to remove himself from the utter throes of heartbreak, the track’s tempo shifts and a familiar electronic pulse is felt. A brassy drop emerges but doesn’t revive, only enlightens, offering hope embedded in the R&B soundscape. Intimate and a true start of walking towards forgiveness, “I Don’t Know Why I Fall In Love” is a soulful composition of lucid dreaming and realism. ONUR continues to impress and cut melodies in a class of his own.
