Nikki Jean Dishes Out No More Chances on ‘Mr. Clean’ Ft. Lupe Fiasco

Minnesota's Nikki Jean returns with confidence in an intoxicating production and a killer hook.

For those of you who haven’t been blessed by the touch of Nikki Jean‘s vocals, let’s take a moment to flex on the resume held by Ms. Jean. Grammy-nominated, co-wrote alongside Bob Dylan, Burt Bacharach, and Lamont Dozier, and most notably known on Lupe Fiasco’s “Hip Hop Saved My Life.” Now that you all know, the intoxicating aroma of Jean’s style and vocals return on her latest single “Mr. Clean“, featuring the charm of Fiasco. Preparing for her Rhymesayers Entertainment debut, “Mr. Clean” is a cool drink of confidence with notes that could kill.

Jake One’s production gives Jean’s vocals cushion to play around with and navigate her thoughts and feelings. Small amounts of brass and Latin percussion’s mesh with the infectious hip-hop rhythm that walks across the 4 minutes effortlessly. The Minnesota artist’s vocals deliver the track’s intent with poise and assertiveness. Jean’s range is subtle, silvery, but potent to the last drop when paired with her intent: “I’ve met the same man with different faces, many many times… This song is dedicated to him. The one that would leave me f*cked up and crying if I gave him half a chance… And we don’t give him chances no more.”

Carved from One and Jean, waiting for Fiasco to bring it home, the second half of the track revives the notions towards a summer anthem. Fiasco’s verse is short, direct, and cleanly transitions into the addictive hook. This is just a taste of what Jean is about to release and we can’t wait for what the rest of the year has to offer.
