LA’s newest goddess of ghoulish rock, Jesse Jo Stark’s heavily lidded green eyes will be the first thing to hypnotize you, moments before her smoky voice seals the deal. Daughter of the fashion moguls behind the Chrome Hearts brand, Stark has spent the past year laying down the foundations to blaze her own trail in the music industry. As a songwriter, she oscillates smoothly from goth queen to folk crooner, tied together in a package of sweet melancholy. Having recently spent six months crafting songs while sequestered in a small UK cabin, Stark boasts an untitled EP set for a June 1st release and a full-length album ready to drop in the fall. Stark will also be supporting Sunflower Bean on her early summer tour, with a final date landing her at LA’s Teragram Ballroom on June 15th.
Out today, Stark’s spooky new single “Fire of Love” is a bone-rattling track perfect for those of us who spend our daylight hours daydreaming of pulling on our all-black ensembles and slipping into the night. Complete with jazz organ and gothy surf guitar, “Fire of Love” recalls evenings spent basking in the harvest moon and cruising up the coast at the witching hour. A deliberate rhythm stomps through the song, turning it into a dark, almost anthemic march. In a sultry purr, Stark declares “I want to burn in the fire of love tonight,” demanding pure, unrestrained passion from her lover, nothing less. Dare to disappoint her and you may find yourself under her spell.
