Lauren Ruth Ward Has a Lot to Say with ‘Well, Hell’

If you haven’t heard the good word of Lauren Ruth Ward yet, it’s time to crawl out from the rock you’ve been living under. Since emigrating westward two years ago, this Baltimore-bred powerhouse has fully cemented herself as a sweetheart of the Los Angeles indie music scene, all before releasing a full length album. Best to get on this train before it leaves the station, because this girl is going places.

As the release of her first full length effort swiftly approaches, Lauren Ruth Ward is coming at us again, this time with the album’s rollicking title track, “Well, Hell.” This high velocity piece pulls energy from a handful of power chords and a driving drum beat, all backing Ward’s signature passionate growl. Blazing by in a quick three minutes, the track highlights Ward’s blunt honesty through autobiographical lyrics like “My momma loves me, she squeezes me, she believes in medicine / Wants me to succeed and fix those things inside my head.” Colored with throaty vibrato, lyrics like these befit a cathartic release of deeply held frustrations, as Ward insists, “I have a lot to say.”

For those hungry for a taste of this raucous energy in the flesh, the wait is almost over. Lauren Ruth Ward will be playing a special album release show at the Bootleg Theater at the end of September. We can’t wait to hear what she has to say.
